AquaCar Description
In stunning Aqua with black leather seats.
This beautiful B was purchased by its second owner in 1981 from a lebanese lady studying at Queen's University in Belfast, who explained that she had purchased it new from a dealer in Beirut had driven it from Lebanon through Syria, Turkey, Romania, Germany and so on, to attend Queen's.
He found tickets and coins throughout car that verified that it had indeed, completed the journey.
He kept the MG until earlier this year, and he cared for and maintained it during this time. The history file has MOTs and invoices going back to the 1980's.
The engine was rebuilt with a new cylinder head and the car was converted to righthand drive in the late eighties, and it has covered just over 14,000 miles since. The file shows that the bodywork was attended to over time and that the mechanicals were kept in shape.
In 2017 a rebuild of the interior including new carpets and door cards along with fully retrimmed seats in leather unfortunately resulted in a fire caused by shoddy workmanship.
Whilst the repairs were being assessed under insurance, the repair shop found that there was corrosion and lots of filler so it was decided to carry out a bare metal refurbishment with new sills, wings, doors, bootlid and bonnet. The underside was stripped and treated.
The car was resprayed in its original Aqua and it still looks stunning with deep, rich, blemish free paintwork, very good chromework and a fully detailed engine bay. The rebuild included new ancilliaries, a new wiring loom and a new clutch went in when refitting the engine and gearbox.
Totalling over £33,000 with a full set of invoices to back this up, the restoration was of a high quality and the B still looks fabulous today, inside and out and the engine bay is superb. One of the invoices has the wording 'reassembly to concours standard'.
New alloy wheels and tyres were fitted and a discreet DAB radio went in, along with a new hood and tonneau, a battery cut-off and the boot is now carpeted.
An Heritage Certificate confirms the MG's specification the upgrades now being the leather seats and the gearbox has overdrive fitted.
This MGB drive beautifully with smooth power and drivetrain and none of the shack rattle and roll that weary cars suffer from.
A beautiful car in a striking colour.
