The background to the MG M Type, is that a gentleman in Shropshire was restoring a pre-war Morris Minor as an M Type replica. In about 2011 he acquired this original MG M Type in poor condition but with an original radiator, and he chose to restore this car and use parts from the Morris build where relevant. A new replacement body correct to the original specification was supplied by Sports and Vintage of Shrewsbury and was fabric covered.
The engine is an original 847cc four cylinder, bevel gear driven overhead camshaft unit which has been rebuilt with new piston rings, new high tensile big end bolts and the vertical drive is fitted with a rubber lip oil seal to protect the (rebuilt) dynamo. The carburettor has been overhauled.
The gearbox has been refreshed and fitted with a rare MG D-Type gearbox remote control, which improves the driving experience no-end. New brakes, radiator core, tyres and refurbished shock absorbers were fitted. The brightwork has been rechromed. A well fitting, fabric tonneau is fitted.
There is a large file of invoices and some photographs of the build.
In 2016, the MG was sold to the most recent owner who has used it infrequently. The car runs smoothly and the three speed gearbox is straightforward to use, especially with the remote gearbox.
Some settling on the bonnet paintwork has taken place, but the rest of the car remains in very good order.
