In green over green!

This stunning 80" Series 1 Land Rover comes from a serial LR enthusiast who has owned it for fifty years.

The original buff log book confirms that it was registered on 05.08.1949 - if it was a few weeks younger it would have the pale green of the very early cars.

It was supplied new in 1949 by Land Rover people Barretts of Canterbury who are still going to this day, to a farm in Faversham and later passed to a fencing contractor near Ashford and then to a garage in the village of Bethersden. It was spotted on a Sunday afternoon drive in 1975 parked behind the garage looking pretty dilapitated and bought for the princely sum of £15.00 (there is a bill from Jarvis Garage in the history file)

It is called Mildred after the owner's Mother who found it on that afternoon run out, and it has a special badge on the grille noting this.

After many years in a Nissen hut, the 80" was entrusted to early Land Rover experts Dunsfold DLR in Surrey in 2012 and completely and sympathetically restored from the chassis up. This work is invoiced and detailed in the file and cost in excess of £31,000. The chassis only required minimal repairs and the bulkhead was better than expected. The rear tub was out of true so it was replaced with a new, handmade one. The original engine was too far gone to be saved, so a correct fully reconditioned unit which is only a few months younger, went in. All trim, fixtures and fittings, and the mechanical parts were refurbished or rebuilt where necessary. This included the gearbox, axles, brakes, cooling and fuel system.

The extensive history file includes invoices and photographs of the rebuild, the original buff log book, considerable history back to 1949 and maintenance since the restoration.

The Series 1 has only had four owners since new. It retains its original registration number EFN 500 (FN is Canterbury)

Since then the Land Rover has been treasured and used for Club runs, weddings and classic car shows. It has covered 4,545 miles in this time. It remains in beautiful condition throughout.

A very special 80" Land Rover.
