Land Rover made approximately 2,700 101s, divided between ambulances, radio bodies and General Service and they were produced in LHD and RHD, 12 and 24V and only sold to the military.

The design was such that three 101s would fit into a Hercules aircraft. The load was 1 Tonne and they could carry ammunition or personnel. They were regularly used for towing a 115mm gun or a Rapier missile. Shackles on the vehicle allowed a GS and a 115 mm gun to be slung under a Chinook  helicopter.

'Our' 101 is a 1976 RHD 12v and has the Rover 3.5 litre engine. It has the benefit of a recent soft top, the doors have been replaced (a weak area on these vehicles) and it has a stainless exhaust and fuel tank. There are two bench seats in the back and cabinet which includes a cool box and cooker for use at shows (we can remove this if a buyer wishes)

A full set of front mounted Pioneer tools is fitted consisting of a spade a pick axe and fire extunguisher. There is also a triple Jerry can holder and an original SLR dash mount rifle holder along with a NATO hitch and lifting eyes.

The 101 has been well looked after and during the recent owner's tenure it has had new brakes including a master cylinder, the stainless exhaust, a water pump and core plugs, and servicing.

It's in good condition throughout and has been used for military and local shows. It has covered 53,000 miles and comes with its Military history B card showing that it served with 29 Commando and the Royal Green Jackets.

Good fun to drive and something a little different.
